Thomas G. Gunning is professor emeritus in the Department of Reading at Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) and currently serves as adjunct professor at Central Connecticut State University (CCSU), teaching a variety of courses on literacy, remedial reading, and reading problem diagnosis. A former public school teacher, he long headed the reading clinic at SCSU, where he coached teachers working with disabled readers. He is author of over a dozen textbooks and professional titles related to reading and literacy instruction.Gunning serves as trainer and consultant in addition to his academic work and is a frequent presenter at education conferences. He also serves as a state-wide consultant for Connecticut’s DOE-mandated Reading First program.
